When it comes to shrinking materials, temperature constraints are a significant factor to consider. Temperature affects everything from the temperature at which your products pass through the heat tunnel to the air conditions for your vehicles. If you're someone who works in extreme conditions, then you may face some limitations.  

When storing your shrink film before you use it, make sure you have a general understanding of the best techniques for both summer and winter storage. Temperature limits are critical for these materials during these times of the year. Shrink film can melt and attach to itself if it gets too heated or become brittle and crack if it gets too cold.

How To Properly Store Your POF

When it gets hot during the summer months, you want to keep your film in the coldest place in your warehouse. This is usually closest to the floor, on the lowest area of your pallet racks. Keep the rolls out of direct sunlight and sections of your warehouse affected by the hot weather outside. Try to plan your deliveries early in the morning to minimize exposure to the sun and avoid leaving them in a hot trailer for extended periods.

If you put your shrinking materials in the freezer, it damages it. Problems can arise when the film is exposed to intense cold for an extended period. When dropped, PVC film, for example, can shatter like glass, posing a completely distinct safety concern. The objective is to keep the shrinking material cold but not frozen. A high-quality polyolefin film may be preferable when packing frozen foods and other things that must be refrigerated.

If your shrinking wrap is sticky, it indicates that it’s been overheated. Don't risk downtime on the packing line if you have two rolls next to each other glued together. Find a cool roll to use

Shrink Wrap That Sags or Bags

Shrinking material that has been exposed to too much heat before use may begin to sag on the roll's edges. Before using the shrink wrap, look for problems like sagging or bagging. Using film with flaws like these can cause tracking issues on your equipment, so keep an eye out for damaged rolls, especially during the summer months.
